Unit Badge: Construction
Time: Forty standard years. Offenses
The most massive gravity gun yet constructed by the Empire, the main weapon of the Fist is formidable indeed. Packing sufficient power to collapse the core of a medium, Sol-sized star, the Fist can also be manipulated to do other things as well - create an interdiction field, tow coreship sized vessels, deflect multi-kilometer boarding vessels, crush capital ships into cans, and create artificial singularities. It is, however, a very cumbersome weapon, and charging the array takes a long time. The actual structure of the firing array is robust, but concentrated bombardment can bring it to harm.
The H-PPC batteries are among the heaviest energy weapons the fleet has to bear. Capable of reducing an entire planet to molten slag in a few hours, a full salvo from the heavy batteries is usually enough to doom any ship smaller than the Fist, or seriously damage something of equal size.
The next biggest energy weapons, the M-PPCs fire faster than the heavier batteries, and work optimally against frigates, light cruisers, and most other types of light capitals, though a concerted bombardment against more heavily armored targets from the M-PPCs is still not easy to shrug off.
These batteries fire the fastest. They are most useful in taking down bombers doing runs over the hull of the Fist, and against corvettes and small craft. Against fighters and missiles, however, their effectiveness is limited.
Utilizing the powerful gattling PPC technology, these extreme rapid fire, point defense batteries are designed to shred apart fighters, missiles, and power suits; threats which are usually too maneuverable to handle with larger weapons.
Next to "the Fist," the H-MACs are the most devastating weapons mounted aboard the Fist of the Empress. They are the heaviest kinetic kill weapons mounted in the fleet aside from the purely hypothetical U-MAC.
Embedded in the armor of the superstructure are fifty of the new Meson projector tactical weapons. Their nature and exact power remains shrouded in secret, as the technology is closely protected by the Empire.
Ion cannons are standard armament for Imperial vessels, tasked solely to disable enemy vessels so to "reel" them in with tractor beams.
Clustered around the lower bays of the Fist of the Empress, the smaller tractor beams are what the giant "Fist" is based on, though their use is far less malevolent and only supposed to help in drawing ships in instead of crushing them into nothingness. Defenses
Specifically designed to repel boarders from the Fist, the Gravitic Eddies shield works by causing cascading "slip streams" of gravitons up and down the hull of the ship, drawing boarders as they close with them along the hull and flinging them out into space, or making them vulnerable to point defense. Additionally, the GE shield is also of limited usefulness against kinetic kill projectiles - shells, missiles, and torpedoes, by deflecting them slightly off course. The power feed of the GES is, however, quite tremendous, and should only be deployed in situations in which boarders are a distinct possibility.
The Fist has additional defenses on board to help defend against boarders. An armor and shielding layer exists roughly a kilometer in (from the widest point) from the primary layer of about seventy-five percent the strength and thickness of the primary layer. Additionally, the walls typically conceal "pop-out" gun emplacements, and critical choke points sport pill-box like structures that can be garrisoned.
A craft about one-hundred and fifty meters in length lies nestled in the bridge superstructure. It is equipped with phased-cloaking like that employed upon the Schicksalschiff coreships and other stealth and evasion devices. It is also heavily armored, but sports little aside from point-defense weapons for armaments. Overall it is not designed or stocked for long-term excursions, but rather is intended solely as a means of escape for the command crew and if necessary, the Empress, should the Fist be sufficiently threatened.
Ensconced in the outer layers of the ship's armor, a matrix of superconductors helps to dissipate the damage of energy weapons that manage to penetrate to the hull, making the ship virtually invulnerable to most energy weapons, though the matrix is still susceptible to damage from kinetic-kill weaponry.
The outermost armor layer, singularity-forged steel is a strong material made by compressing matter in an artificial singularity. While not as strong as neutronium might be when used as armor, it is still many magnitudes greater in strength than normal steel or titanium.
Below the primary SFS layer lies fifty meters of titanium "rod" armor. Instead of a solid sheet of titanium, there are millions of thick rods laced around the ship’s hull, making it difficult for kinetic kill weapons to penetrate farther in by partially deflecting them, though concentrated bombardment will quickly weaken this layer's integrity.
Under the primary armor layer is a three-meter thick layer of nanites. While the nanites are of limited effectiveness for repairing damage to the outer hull, they can regenerate themselves relatively quickly, though if hard-pressed to do this for a very long period - i.e., the hull sustains damage all the way down to the nanite layer, and as such this layer is bombarded often during a campaign - the effectiveness of the nanites diminishes as they exhaust the resources required to propagate themselves.
The redundant shielding is the stock energy shield for Arizonan ships. It provides a rechargeable defense against both kinetic and energy weapons. While the redundancy makes the energy cost of the shield is expensive, it is a valuable asset to the ship's overall defense.
Two gravity generators contains one another, creating a sphere within a sphere of gravity. The inside one is very powerful, the outer one is opposing and considerably weaker, but also opposite. The "weakness" results so that it balances to normal gravity. Both fields are wired through the gridsphere. One then opens a hole to "the grid," a dimension of infinite energy. It is contained by the gravity generators, and one only need "siphon" out what one needs for it to generate power. The gravity generator also holds the "door" to the grid open, so if something should happen, losing the gravity causes the door to slam back shut. Additionally, should the ship lose access to the grid for any reason, capacitors can be used to power the vessel, and if those give out, other conventional generators can power the ship, though at reduced affectiveness - probably giving it just enough power to move.
Arrayed in a pattern reminiscent of coiled chromosomes, fusioncluster generators are numbers of small, donut-shaped fusion generators themselves arrayed in a loop. The enormous power demands of the Fist, however, make it so that they operate only affectively enough to power the ships engines and life support, and little more. Siesatian Primary Electronic
Countermeasure / Tracking / Repair/ Espionage System The SPECTRE System is a New ECM/ECCM
system designed in cooperation with Arizona Nova. It is the ultimate ECM
system, it can fool most missiles and torpedoes, even IMGREC and EXOCET
systems. It accomplishes this via the use of a very sophisticated Cloaking/Holographic
system, which can make a ship the size of a moon appear to be the size
of a doughnut. The drain on power is the only major drawback.
